Visual Identity

For many, experiencing aversion to ugliness is an instinctual reaction. The majority of artistic practice and education strengthens this instinct by attempting to reduce the experience of ugliness to an absolute minimum. My graduate thesis, upon which this work is based, offers a defence of ugliness, shining a light on some of the ways that engagement with ugliness can be rewarding, both for individuals and larger creative fields. In Farvegir og Form, I worked with alternative methods of designing that forced me to let go of the desire to create something beautiful, and the resulting work is a product of, and a reflection on, that process.
